Why Start Plot & Page?
Everyone deserves readers who care.
Our website is full of answers to the question, “Why would someone hire Plot & Page to read their script?” This blog post is to answer the other question; “Why would someone start a script consulting business like Plot & Page?”
The truth is, this is the work we were doing already. Like the site says, both of us were Writers’ Assistants and Script Coordinators before we were staffed television writers. Early in our careers, we got experience at the highest level and under the highest stress distilling story, proofreading and re-formatting, and making sure every page of every script was ready for scrutiny and production.
And since then, in between writing jobs, we’ve both built up client bases reading scripts, mostly for other professional television and feature writers. We’ve always done it ad hoc, as available, and both realized how much we enjoy helping people with their scripts by providing high quality feedback. We love doing this, but doing it individually limited who we could reach, and who we could help. We knew wanted clients beyond LA, who might not have access to readers who invest in a collaborative approach like you find in a writers’ room.
So we are combining forces and expanding our offerings. There may be other services out there where someone will (usually anonymously) give you notes, but we want to build the script consulting service we'd want ourselves. One where the person reading your script cares about making it better with you. Where the conversation is designed to unlock your great ideas, not just gives you a list of rote steps to follow. And that is how we came up with Plot & Page.
Some day (hopefully soon!) we’ll add more consultants to the roster! For now, this is a way for us to bring Hollywood standards to you, wherever you are. Just let us know how we can help.
